Monumental villa fitted with earthquake isolators

In the Dutch village of Loppersum, Bresser earthquake-proofed a monumental villa built in 1933, weighing 250 tonnes. First, a new structural floor was installed. Then the monument was lifted to make room for the installation of special earthquake isolators (base-isolation). After assembly, Bresser lowered the building back into place.

Monumental villa fitted with earthquake isolators

In the Dutch village of Loppersum, Bresser jacked a 250-tonne monumental villa (1933) to a height of 120 cm. The villa is located in an area where earthquakes occur due to natural gas extraction. The jacking made room to fit the building with 14 base isolators (earthquake isolators). These insulators ensure that the special building is resistant to earthquakes. After assembly, Bresser lowered the building back into place.
