Town hall jacked up and made earthquake resistant
In Loppersum, the Netherlands, Bresser improved the earthquake resistance of the town hall by jacking up the building and installing a base isolation system. The town hall, which was only ten years old, first underwent foundation improvement works. Bresser then jacked up the entire building to create space for the installation of the seismic protection system.
Once the building had been lifted, 103 base isolation sliders were installed. These seismic isolators reduce the transfer of ground movements to the structure, enhancing both the safety and durability of the building.
Thanks to this strengthening operation, the town hall is now better prepared for future earthquakes and provides a safe environment for both employees and visitors. The project was carried out on behalf of BAM.
