Bresser relocated an industrial chimney over a distance of more than 450 metres on the former Philips site in Roosendaal, the Netherlands.
44-Metre chimney relocated over 450 metres
Bresser relocated a 44-metre-high industrial chimney over a distance of more than 450 metres to a new location. The industrial heritage structure had to make way for the redevelopment of the former Philips site in Roosendaal.
Under the watchful eyes of the public and the media, the 450-ton chimney was transported just above ground level using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).
Together with Techniek en Methode, a consultancy specializing in execution and heritage engineering, Bresser developed a special support structure to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible during the relocation. The move was completed successfully and according to schedule. Within a matter of hours, the chimney had reached its new location.
Thanks to this relocation, the industrial monument was preserved and remains a distinctive landmark for the city of Roosendaal, The Netherlands.
