UNESCO‑listed dam sluice from 1893 restored

By order of the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer in the Netherlands, a monumental dam sluice, built in 1893, has been carefully restored. The brick UNESCO‑listed structure received a completely new foundation because the original timber pile foundation, more than 100 years old, could no longer fulfill its structural purpose.

The Damsluis is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, which has been designated as UNESCO World Heritage since 1996. The restoration work was carried out by the Wagemaker–Bresser partnership.
